Necromunda Goliaths advance

Popped to WHW again today for another run through the rules. With 4 game under my belt feeling confident with the rules.

I am in the process of writing up a campaign, it is going to be very narrative based, taking inspiration from Tale of the Pilgrim and the Iron Sleet blog.

Iron Sleet can be found in my followed blogs on the right hand side.

Hopefully will have something to post up in the next week or so.

Game 1 turn 1 of the Campaign

Tonight we played the first game in a Campaign being run by friends Tony and Jay.

I had 25 power from army off 40 that had crash landed due to a mysterious fog. In the background one of Jay's custom built objectives is waiting to be destroyed.

Have the 2nd game next week at Warhammer World so I am hoping to have at least one of the units completed.

Ultramarine- WIP Primaris Intercessor

Ultramarine- WIP Primaris Intercessor

Woke early this morning and was inspired to finally start work on the Primaris Marines from the Dark Imperium box set. With having recently completed the Ultramarine Captain I rather liked the metallic blue, so using the clear Calth Blue popped this over highlighted Leadbelcher. A around 4 thin coats and I am happy with the coverage. Just the gun and the decals to finish off then to work on the rest of the unit.

Jay and Tony are working on a narrative campaign so I am just waiting on the email with what we need to have in our forces.

But with an HQ complete and the start on the first Tactical unit progress is looking good.

So what about my Death Guard? I will write up a post on why they have been put on the back burner for now.

Card of The Week - Team Yankee Cobra

Card of The Week - Team Yankee Cobra
This weeks card of the Week is the AH-1 Cobra for Team Yankee

Unit cards are by no means a new thing in war-gaming, but what I like at about the ones made for Team Yankee is the front of the card covers all the stats in nice large bold text, and the reverse carries points selection amount. Also are all the special rules for the unit, which means rather than constant rulebook referencing during the game you can just pick up the card.
What I also really like about the Team Yankee range is that the cards come in the box sets so no need to buy a separate deck.

So the Cobras are built undercoating will take place next week, and will post some more progress shots of the growing army.

Will have him finished tomorrow

Team Yankee: Stripes Army List

Team Yankee: Stripes Army List

So myself and Jonathan found that our blog had been linked on the front page of the Flames of War page in this weeks update. So no pressure now lol.

I mentioned in my last post that I was looking at writing up my army list this week. This lunch time I put the finishing touches to the list.

We have decided that Jonathan's pesky Ruskies will be attacking through Hof heading towards Bayreuth, Standing in there way is the 2nd ACR. So with a little bit of background behind the force selection I cracked open Stripes.

I am using the Cavalry Troop list as I love the idea of scouting M113's spotting the advancing tanks allowing the M901's and M1's to ambush to take out a few tanks before heading to a new prepared position.

So on with the list:

HQ: Armoured Cavalry Troop HQ 1pt

Troop:

2 x M1 Abrams 16 pts

2 x M1 Abrams 16 pts

1 M113 Scout Section 2 pts

1 M113 Scout Section 2 pts

Support:

2 x AH-1 Cobra 7 pts

Total Points: 44 pts

I think this list will give me some flexible options depending on what the Ruskies throw into the front line.

Next post will be the next stage of the construction of the army.

Comments always welcome.

Team Yankee: Stripes

Bit of a break since my last post as it has been a hectic few weeks. I spent the end of October in Essen Germany at the Spiel. This is one of the largest Board Game shows in the world with nearly 250,000 visitors over 4 days.

I work for Battlefront Miniatures and we were demoing our new Boards Games, Dr Who Time of the Daleks and Brigands & Browncoats
http://www.fireflythegame.com/ . I will post more on these games in the future.

But todays post is about our upcoming release for Team Yankee, Stripes. Team Yankee was released 2 years ago with 1 core book featuring both Soviet and US forces. Over the past couple of years we have brought out books for British, West German and East German forces. Now it is time to revisit the Soviet and US forces and give them their own dedicated books, earlier this year the Soviets book Red Thunder was released with a load more new vehicles and units. Next month is the turn of the US with the release of Stripes.
Being new into Team Yankee I have team up with Jonathan Peace who also works with me at Battlefront and we have decided to take the new armies and learn how to play Team Yankee.

The upcoming posts will follow our starts into our new armies, the building and painting and learning how to play.

So tonight I will be reading through Stripes and finding a hook to start my army.

Next post will be a breakdown of the book and what army I have chosen.

If you are interested in fighting World War III battles then check out the Team Yankee web page.

WIP: DEATH GUARD BATCH PAINTING

WIP: DEATH GUARD BATCH PAINTING

So last post saw the completion of the 2nd Death Guard marine. At the rate that they are being painted it is going to be a long time before I see 2 fully painted squads, for my army. So to speed things up I have looked at how I can do some batch painting.
As the base armour is all green I have started with that along with the ink washing and highlighting.
Will also tackle all the metals before then working on each model as an individual.

How do you do your batch painting?

Gallery: Death Guard

Gallery: Death Guard

Last night I completed my second Death Guard model. Also my light box finally arrived so was testing out how it worked. Not the best photo at the moment but will be working on getting better pics soon.

I am away in Essen next week so will be taking the rest of this squad away with me to work on at the hotel, hopefully when back will get a chance to post up the first completed unit shots.

Galley: Death Guard Test Model

Galley: Death Guard Test Model

Not sure I have ever put so much work into one base, I love the detail that GW have put on the bases and I think it deserved so much more that just a base wash and dry brush.

After the break check out the model that sits on top.

WIP Death Guard Marine First Run

WIP Death Guard Marine First Run

Started work on my first test marine. I know that I had listed with Mouldering Claw and looking in the codex it looked like it was a black armour. However looking in the supplement from the Dark Imperium box it is a darker green, I toyed around with some dark greens and they just looked a bit to Dark Angels in colour.

So I have gone with a series of thinned down almost washes using Death Guard Green and then Ogryn Green some shades.

It is coming together well, and I hope to have a galley shot tomorrow.
Currently wracking my brain on the basing.

WIP: The Mouldering Claw

WIP: The Mouldering Claw

So last night I started pulling my models together for the army to see what I have and what I need to buy. Some of the models in my list have not yet been released yet so I really have to crack on with what I can get my hands on. Having a really tight timeline I have drawn up a painting chart so I can track my progress.

Cannot get the image linked into the document but if you click on the link above you can see the sheet.

Pay day this week and hopefully GW put the models I need up for Pre-Order so that I can get the remaining models.

How do you plan out your painting projects?

Army List: The Mouldering Claw

Army List: The Mouldering Claw

Morning fellow  Bloggers and Blog readers, todays post will be taking you through my 120 points power rating Death Guard army list, I am hoping that I am going to be able to attend the Throne of Skulls at the end of November.

The new format is all about sporting behaviour and themed armies rather than win at all costs. I love the idea and the sentiment behind that, however I am under no illusion that with the points still being more heavily in favour of the points of the win, there will still be the players that want to turn up an have the power WAAC armies.

So with 120 points that can be spread over 3 detachments I sat down with the new Death Guard codex some pen, paper and a cup of tea.

Card of the Week: Twist

Card of the Week: Twist

Morning fellow Bloggers and Blog readers.

Starting a new weekly posting called card of the week.

We have been playing a lot of 8th Edition 40k since the release and in the opening weeks releases GW brought out a deck of Cards called Open War. This deck of cards contains 5 separate decks that are designed to allow players to grab their armies and quickly choose a Deployment set up, the missions objective, and a twist to the mission. There are also Ruse decks and Sudden Death which come into play depending on the difference between the 2 armies scores.

So after the break see what Twist card was pulled at random.

Gallery: Thousand Sons Legion Praetor

Gallery: Thousand Sons Legion Praetor

Last night completed work on the new Thousand's Son's Praetor. Just have the base to edge, was really hoping that my new light would have arrived but sadly not. Went with the Metallic Cherry Red scheme from Forge World using Leadbelcher rather than gold as my base colours. Really enjoyed painting this model and where as I am not planning on doing a full Thousands Sons army I may well paint up a Dreadnought as the model is stunning.

Once the light box turns up I will get some better photos taken and posted.

What have you guys completed over the weekend?

WIP: Death Guard Noxious Blightbringer

WIP: Death Guard Noxious Blightbringer

Oops yet another model started.
I do finish them I promise, I am going with a very dark gloomy feel to my Death Guard. Started work on the metal before I get to the armour. The first few layers have been done ending up with a verdigris, next up some more wash layers before hitting the metal again.

In the post this week is a small light box, so hopefully some gallery shots in the near future.

UNBOXING: First Strike Warhammer 40,000 Starter Set

UNBOXING: First Strike Warhammer 40,000 Starter Set

There has been a lot of unboxing posts on the web of the new Dark Imperium box set. This weekend I got my latest hobby fix from Element Games and it was the First Strike Warhammer 40,000 starter set.
This box set is about the size of a house brick and weighs about the same, so what have GW managed to cramp into the seemly small box?

Check after the break for the unboxing

WIP: Primaris Space Marine Captain

WIP: Primaris Space Marine Captain

I have had the Dark Imperium box since the release date, and the Primaris Marines have pretty much sat in sprue as I have struggled with my choice of Chapter. I still have the 5 test Space Wolves that should be finished this weekend. However as I am doing Space Wolves for 30k I really want to head down a different path for 40k.

Death Guard are going to be my primary force, but I do want to paint up the Primaris, but use them as long term painting and modelling project. So I have decided on my own colour scheme and now working on some back ground for them.

So starting with the Captain I have removed his Master Crafted power sword and replaced it with a Master Crafted Power Glaive. I have used a spare Glaive from the Age of Sigmar Liberators sprue. I need to do some green stuff work on the joints, but then he will be ready to paint.

The colour scheme has been decided so check back and see the progress.

Have you stayed with a known Chapter?Or have you created your own?

Catch you on the flipside.

So This Happened

So this Happened

Everything was on track to have the first 1000 pts finished for the Forge World open. Then on the Weds morning woken up at 4am with the Fire Alarms screaming and water flowing through the ceiling. So a couple of weeks down the line the house is drying out and the 1000pts is almost done.

Will post up some pics later this week

WIP: 30K Space Wolves Troops Part 2

WIP: 30K Space Wolves Troops Part 2

Been a tough work week so little day time progress. All the foot troops and the Dreadnoght have their base armour colour and Ink wash, next up highlighting the armour and getting the metal work finished.

Will get more progress done tomorrow night, check back to see the next update

Only 6 days of painting left eeek

WIP: 30k Space Wolves Troops part 1

Really starting to get a lot of prep work done on my 1000pt Space Wolves force. Me and some gaming buddies are going to the Forge World Open Day on the 13th of August. We all plan to bring a small 1000pt force so that we can play some games in the afternoon. Having started a new army it gives me 14 days till the event. Today I assembled my two tactical squads and the Contempter Dreadnought.

Check the pictures after the break.

WIP: 30K Space Wolves HQ Part 1

WIP: Horus Heresy HQ Part 1
Work in Progress on the 1000 pts has been pretty solid. So far I have the 2 tactical squads assembled and the 5 heavies with Las-cannons. Also my HQ. I have used 2 of the plastic wolves from the 40K range both in motion poses. The Praetor's body is from the Forge World Praetor set, the axe, head and shoulder pads are from the Games Workshop Space Wolves accessory pack. All in all a very quick conversion that I am very pleased with. Looking forward to having these painted this weekend.

What you got planned on the painting table this weekend?

Competition: Rocket Racoon

Competition: Rocket Racoon

I have been following Massive Voodoo painting blog site for many years and it is one that has inspired me to starting my own crazed writings. They are a bunch of very very talented painters that cannot help to motivate and inspire me to keep painting and trying new techniques.

Every year they run a painting competition and this year they have 2 catagories, the first being water and the second being Disney Infinity models.
I had been inspired by a post that Roman put up with his Iron Man  model.

Army List: 30k Space Wolves

Army List: 30k Space Wolves

My current reading has been Thousand Sons, and the Forge World Inferno book, I have been looking to start a new 30k army for some time now, I have always been drawn to Space Wolves and there were one of the armies I fondly remember collecting when I started in the hobby many years ago.
As you will have seen from my other posts I am currently working on 5 Primaris Marines in a more modern Space Wolves colour scheme.

Check after the break the list I am working on

WIP : SPACE WOLVES PRIMARIS MARINES PART 2

WIP : SPACE WOLVES PRIMARIS MARINES PART 2

This week I have made some solid progress on the Space Wolves, I have learnt not to fully glue them together as it does make it difficult to reach some of the areas. But great fun to paint.

Product Spotlight : Brush Cleaner

Product Spotlight : Brush Cleaner

Today I received a new product to spotlight, most of us painters will simply wash our brushes out with clean water at the end of ever painting session, but in time we find the point fraying and splitting.

This is a brush cleaning soap that you rub the tip of the moist brush through and gently work through before washing out with clean water.

Easy to source picked, mine up from Amazon for under £5

Great little hobby purchase
